Conversations with Marty Ross, Q and A.

Many of us who are Immune compromised are concerned about whether we are more susceptible to Covid19,

Marty Ross tackles this question in his April Q and A, I decided to dedicate this post to publishing my notes – he makes some very helpful suggestions most of which I agree with but not all. I had added my own thoughts and underlined what is my own text.

The Innate Immune System and Natural Killer Cells deal with fighting new infections that the body has not yet been exposed to, this is the part of the immune system we need to focus on in relation to fighting Infections such as Coronavirus.

CD57 is a Natural Killer Cell (NK) marker particular to Lyme Disease. Often low with Chronic Lyme.

He recommends:

  • Transfer Factor (research nutritionals).
  • Vitamin D 5000 IU per day.
  • Reishi 400 mg three times a day – Reishi contains Beta Glucans, shown to increase immune function.
  • Glutathione or NAC to increase the immune system.
  • Vitamin A, increases ability of mucous membranes to resist microbes.
  • Zinc:

Zinc blocks the enzyme that controls virus replication inside infected cells. Hydroxychloroquine is an ionophore that helps carry Zinc into cells. Taking zinc supplements without an ionophore like hydroxychloroquine is not that helpful. Another zinc ionophore that is shown to help in laboratory studies is the supplement quercetin I mentioned earlier in the section on Cytokine storm.”https://www.treatlyme.net/guide/coronavirus-lyme

  • Quercetin increases zinc’s ability to enter the cells -200 mg to 300 mg three times per day or 500mg twice a day.

Quercetin – lowers cytokines:

“Cytokine production is controlled by a cellular genetic messenger called NF-kB. The herbs quercetin and curcumin block this messenger leading to lower cytokines. Antioxidants like liposomal glutathione lower cytokines acutely. It is also possible to turn on a cell messenger called Nrf2 that increases cell production of antioxidants. Curcumin and quercetin turn on Nrf2. Another way to limit cytokine production is to block kinase enzymes. Quercetin is a strong kinase inhibitor.” https://www.treatlyme.net/guide/coronavirus-lyme

Marty does not believe that the immune suppression associated with Lyme does not apply to diseases other than Lyme. It does not mean you may have a ‘broad’ immune suppression.

A question posed to Marty from a listener related to itchy skin, and here’s where I disagree with him:

Marty attempts to put it (itchy skin) down to something called Neurodermatitis or Migratory Neuropathy in other words it can all be in the mind due to nervous system issues related to Lyme Disease. In my opinion Marty should be considering Morgellons.

Persister Cells and Biofilm

  • Disulfiram, Dapsone, Oregano Oil and Methylene Blue- to treat persister form Lyme (post antibiotic treatment).

Marty talks about the difference in time scales when treating Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia and explains that:

  • Lyme takes much much longer due to it’s extended life cycle of 4 weeks and treatment wont show improvements until 4 to 5 months.

Babesia

  • Malarone not Coartem is recommended.
  • Treatment is 4 to 5 months. Treatment follows the life cycle of red blood cells.
  • Improvement after 1 to 2 months.

Symptoms: Night sweats, air hunger and panic attacks also ‘deja vu’.

Bartonella

  • Combination herbal or prescription antibiotics.
  • Steps to boost the immune system.
  • Supplements to decrease inflammation caused by chemicals called cytokines.
  • Replicates every 24 hours.
  • Improvement after 1 to 2 months.
  • Use Rifampin and Azithromycin or Clarithromycin.

Symptoms: Muscle twitching, anxiety.

Herbs:

  • Sida Acuta.
  • Houttuynia.

Mycoplasma

  • Intracellular co infection of Lyme: ABX – tetracycline or minocycline.

Detoxing Mycotoxins and Fungal infections

  • Takesumi (bamboo) charcoal was suggested by listener
  • Marty recommends activated charcoal for detoxing fungal infections, 550mg one a day up to 2 pills twice a day.

I prefer using bamboo activated charcoal and mixing it into a psyllium shake. Takesumi is an expensive make but there are others widely available online. Bamboo is far superior for detoxing than ordinary activated charcoal.

White blood cells

Cytokines help fight infections, too many cytokines symptoms: fatigue and brain fog and muscle aching. Cytokines are also made by yeast/fungal infections so consider these infections also if there is sugar cravings, pimples or acne due to toxins, abdominal bloating. A cytokine storm is also known as a Herxheimer Reaction.

  • SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) can also cause a Cytokine Storm.
  • Liposomal Glutathione to detox liver.

Testing

IGG antibodies are the memory of the immune system and does not indicate that the infection is active. Marty is very much against using this as a marker.

Antibiotics (ABX)

Avoid Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin due to being ‘floxed’

Floxed refers to the devastating effects of a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones (FQs) and may include symptoms of extreme fatigue, tendon rupture, joint and muscle pains, nerve pains, and nervous system disturbances’.https://imcwc.com/html5-blank/floxed-by-fluoroquinolone-toxicity/

Dr Shoemaker (Mold Dr) says about 25% of society has a HLA (Mold Gene) meaning they cannot detox fungal toxins, these toxins are recycled around the body in fats via the Liver and Gallbladder, fat sequesters such as Cholestyramine can help. The liver is not able to detox these fat based toxins, triggering Cytokines. (see Biotoxin Illness).

I personally took Cholestyramine for about a year (I have the HLA gene particular to Mold) to treat Biotoxin Illness and concluded that the bamboo charcoal psyllium shakes were as effective, more natural and more cost effective, in removing mycotoxins as Cholestyramine.

Mast Cells Stabilization (Histamine stabilization).

  • Quercetin
  • Ludiola – Neuroprotect (Marty’s Website)
  • Histaquelle

I have tried several products to treat MCAD but found that diet and antihistamines were more effective. See this website for good information on MCAD: https://chriskresser.com/could-your-histamine-intolerance-really-be-mast-cell-activation-disorder/

See here for info on Diamine Oxidase (DOA), and how a genetic polymorphism can effect the way you tolerate histamine.

  1. […] Artemisinin, is effective against the virus. But why is this? It is not an anti viral medication.Dr Marty Ross says in his Q and A this month that it maybe because Chloroquinoline is an Ionophore, and this […]
